1st of 52 weekly self portraits where I am taking on the challenge of learning how to use my camera, and thinking of 52 different bits of myself to post. It should be fun.
Seeing clearly now.
I have worn glasses since I was 14. I needed them about 9. When I finally got them, I started making exclamations about what I could see to my mom on the way home from the optometrist: "MOM! I didn't know there was a stop sign at the end of our street!", "The trees... they are so close, and so GREEN!"... and my mom started crying. I had had headaches for years and we were thinking something was really wrong... but it wasn't. I just couldn't see.
Thinking that Alex is almost that age makes me amazed at the world around me. He is so little... so big... so young and inexperienced, and so darned grown up... all at the same time.
I remember that feeling....got glasses at 13...I was amazed at the leaves on the trees...and everything else was so clear....I had needed them for years too....
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of 52 moments of me. It is a good idea because we post so much of the world around us that somehow we get lost.
ReplyDeleteI love this 52 moments thing too! Might have to try this challenge with you. I started wearing glasses about the same age and had the same experience. Wow! Trees have individual leaves!!! I can read the blackboard in class! (I assumed no one could see it!)

I had the same experience when I was ten or so, with getting glasses. The trees have LEAVES!
