Iris, our dear Araucana, was found dead this morning. There are really no clues as to why. The other Araucana we have looks healthy. Cyan is pretty traumatised. Poor sweet thing found Iris dead on the ground of the coop when she was going out to collect eggs. We blessed her with a little prayer type ceremony and then let her go.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Rylan has taken all 3 losses hard- 2 by the dogs and one naturally. Hopefully Cyan feels better soon
Awww, how sad. We had chickens and didnt lose any but did have friends who had chickens that did. Raccoons got them. It was sad too. I hope you dont lose anymore.
Sorry for your loss and the trauma to the family. She was a pretty bird. ~ksp
I'm sorry about Iris and that Cyan was the one that found her. It's always hard to lose an animal that you are attached to.
I hope the rest of your birds are ok and stay healthy.
Thanks you guys. Cyan is doing better now. Unfortunetly, I think we found the issue. We were collecting eggs at dusk tonight and I came face to face with a RAT. Ugh! So not sure what to do about that... Must buy tubs for chicken food, and new waterer, and unfortunetly becuase their food is hanging, they will not be getting scraps for a while. They will be getting nothing but the food from the hanger. Could a small rat kill a chicken? I don't know... but that is what happened today. I have no idea if the two are related or not. Leave me your thoghts if you can.

So sorry to hear about Iris's passing. What a beautiful bird she was! I was devastated when our neighbor's chickens got into our garage and caused an accident in which two of them were killed. Losing your own pet is very much harder. You might check with county animal control for advice on rat problems.
oh! I'm so very sorry to hear about Iris! Our Americauna Laylou, has not been looking well this last week too. She's all droopy tailed and not eating. I hope the kids are feeling better by now. I can imagine how sad they must be, I'm so attached to my girls too.
