Handcrafted Gifts ~ Critter Warmies

My kids love a warm bed. With that crazy cold snap we had for the last few weeks, they have gotten very attached to what they call 'warmies'. They are bags of millet or flax that can be placed in the microwave for 45 seconds and stay warm in their beds for up to an hour. They have two right now that they rotate between. I am making them each another one. A larger one. With a face. lol...

This sweater critter is my own creation. The hour-glass pattern is a shape that seems like it would lend itself perfectly to the snuggles of my children and yet, still be able to hold up to being drug around the house. I put dried lavender in the flax to be a soothing sent when warmed. The outer cover is all felted sweaters and scraps. Still ok to go in the microwave to be warmed, but snuggly and soothing to cuddle with.

The kids will open these on Christmas Eve this year. It is my hope that sleeping while waiting for Santa will never be so easy.

I wish that I could make a tutorial for a 'how-to' for this critter... but I am not sure that the way that I did things is the best way. lol... I was winging it most of the time with the first one especially. I will see what I can do for the next couple... Perhaps third time will be the charm.
