Nature Hike

Nature hikes can be very unpleasant around here in Jan. However, finding ourselves with quite a few days off, and a warm (being 48*) day we decided to brave it.

It was stunning... Pictures really can't capture the beauty of the forest this time of year. The new buds stick out like soar thumbs on only a few of the trees... the rest are completely bare and absolutely covered in moss. It is like a winter blanket laid over each of the branches in some places. It was also blissfully quiet. No birds chirping, not even ants on the path (much to Logan's dismay). We ran across one other living thing... a banana slug... the whole time we were there. The river was full to the brim, and the brook (turned ragging stream) was rushing down the rocks. It took the couple of sticks and leaves we threw in it along for the ride.

As we were getting there it started to rain... but that didn't stop us. Armed with heavy coats and stout shoes, we felt our way through the forest for a couple hours and came home to hot tea and a nap.

It was a good way to spend the day.
