We are starting to enjoy our garden, and lately there have been lots of pickings. I was bringing reusable shopping totes to collect our veggies, but after getting my hands on some burlap I was inspired to create a "Garden Goodies" bag. I hand-stamped the lettering and made a very basic drawstring bag. Today the bag was filled with green beans, tomatoes, parsley, red beets, peas, onions, and lettuce. I loved bringing all this fresh organic produce home in this very special bag!
In fact, I loved it so much that I decided to make a smaller, prettier version of a "Garden" bag for Emily too! Here she is gathering a bunch of lettuce.
Whenever I make things like this, I love sharing them with others. One lucky reader will win one too! To enter for your chance to win a similar oh-so-cute personalized garden bag for your little one, leave a comment on this post telling us about your favorite Summer family activity (be sure to leave your email address in the comment field)! Giveaway ends Thursday, May 20th at 6:30pm EST. Open to US residents only. Winner will be notified via email.
Good luck!!

Notes from Val: I have one of these beautiful bags from Valerie, and I absolutely love it! It is bigger than it looks and was perfect last year for bringing in salad greens and other bounty from the garden and I look forward to using it this year for the bounty from the new garden. :)

I love the way you included your daughter with her own bag - children so love their own special things. Our favorite is setting out of doors watching the fireflies as the boys try to catch them and of course lighting the fire pit and making smores--yummy!! hsgrandmaof2@yahoo.com
I'm so jealous that you have produce ready for picking already! Summers now with kids - grilling and eating on our picnic table in the backyard. Growing up - crabbing on the dock and eating fresh seafood all summer long.
I can't believe you are already harvesting stuff. My garden is just not there yet. I love the bags - I can't wait to see a pattern :)
Our favorite summer activity - hanging on the back porch as the sun sets. Just relaxing there. Listening to the wind in the trees and enjoying the peace that is our backyard!

Well it has to be going to the farmer's market with my almost 5 year old daughter. We were just commenting the other day that we hope there is a farmer's market in heaven.
I love all these comments! What amazing memories and traditions you are all making with your children. You guys bless me with your ideas. :)
Love Val
I love those bags. they are perfect for kids to help with just about anything.
The best part of summer is just slowing down our schedule and hanging out and being available for adventures...and purchasing yummy produce from the farmer's market and roadside stands.
