Cleaning like a mad thing

I wasn't joking about how lists make my life more motivated. I have kicked my own butt into high gear here. At 8am this morning I was up flinging stuff out of my closet with my dh still asleep in the bed. LOL! I loaded up 3 more garbage bags into the back of the van for Goodwill out of all of our closets tonight. The kids closets I go through rather regularly (you know, because they grow and stuff) but ours? Wow... it has been a LONG time since I had gone through our stuff like this. The bottom of our closets was full with stuff we either didn't need, or that didn't really have a place. Most of that went.

This time around with the decluttering, I have made up a new personal rule: Anything that I come across that is broken, damaged, or in any other way unusable, goes automatically. Unfortunately that meant a couple of my grandma's old quilts that I have been thinking for years I would fix back into working order. I just haven't done it. They have been taking up space for years and I haven't done anything with them. So I took pictures of them... and set them free. Our closets look great now! (In a day or so, I may even feel that sigh of relief that others talk about when getting rid of unfinished work that wears you down.)

Pretty amazing huh?

P.S. An offer on a house we put in got accepted tonight. Wish us luck!

Wow, best of luck with the house!! I have to say, I don't think your "before" pictures look that shabby, but the "after" pics look fabulous. :-) Great idea to take a photo of your Grandma's quilt. That's a great way to remember it without having all the clutter.

WOW. I would be happy if my closet looked like your before picture. I really need to do this but I get anxiety attacks just thinking about it. I guess if i tackle one thing at a time it won't feel so overwhelming. I am terrible at getting rid of things. I have boxes of stuff that I need to go throguh for scrapbookign and family history stuff but I have a feeling 3/4 of it can go!!
