These babies are beautiful and and the lavender ones smell great. I plan on having them all over my house. The smaller twigs and lavender stems are being saved for this same project in miniature to put on the Christmas tree. Although the smaller twig stars I am planning on putting silver glitter so they shimmer in the tree lights.
You need:
- 15 or 18 pieces of dried lavender with long stems.
- Fishing line.(I like the 8lb for this craft because it is easy to tie into a knot that will stay tight.)
- Scissors
- Garden Clippers
1. First, put your lavender twigs in sets of three. Each 'arm' of the star will be made of three pieces of lavender (for the twigs, you usually only need one for each arm).
2. Then start tying. Always tie the stem end to the flower end.
3. When you get to the fourth arm, put it under the second. Like so:
4. Then tie the fifth stem to the bottom of the first and you have a star!
5. Trim the ends off so just the flowers and star are still there.
With the twig stars, try to get some built in decorations like below for interest. But avoid ones that are wet. They tend to have bugs. Ants crawling from your project do not exactly say "Christmas cheer". ;)
They are so beautiful and natural looking. Not to mention FREE!
I also made another set for the Star of David. For this, you make two triangles out of the lavender stems (tying flower end to stem end, always) and then join the two together. It is always best if you weave the stems a little bit so the project lays flat.
Beautiful!

lovely. as. always.
Oh, what a great idea to do these with lavender! Maybe I could do some tiny ones as package decorations (if I get around to making the gifts to package up!)
Those are beautiful! You can also make twig snowflakes by connecting three in the center and painting white.
Thanks for the ideas Val! I just made my first twig star for Christmas presents. I used hemp to tie the ends and glued a piece of cork (for bulletin boards) in the middle with a pic of the kids. Great for everyone in the family!
Wow, these are beautiful! I love lavender. Thanks so much for the great idea, I'll be linking.
My goodness! These are just wonderful. I'm adding these to my to do" file. Thank you!
this are absolutely beautiful! I saw them on One Pretty Thing and fell in love!
