Food from our Cali trip ~ Part 1

My mind is always on food. Is this food good? How was this food grown? Were the workers paid well for the production of this food? It's always on my mind.

Eating good, local, and healthy food while on vacation is just about the hardest time to do it. Especially when you are taking a plane.

I can't say that we ate no fast food while we were on vacation, but I can say that we had what I consider "JUNK" only twice. And both times it was because everywhere else was closed. Mostly, we ate really well.

Food in Cali is in constant view. Production fields go on for miles. We saw endless oceans of Black Walnut trees, rice paddies, peach trees, artichokes, strawberries, lettuce, and hundreds of fields of 'happy cows'. What an amazing abundance they have!

On our way home, on the coast we went to the Tillamook cheese factory in Tillamook, OR. I had a very funny conversation with my toddler as we were going by a particularly yucky smelling dairy field. I said "Look Logan! Cows!" and he replied with "Yeah! Lots of cows. I bet some of them are pooping." LOL! Being in cow country was stinky!

The cheese production area was amazing. It had all these huge windows so you could see just what they were doing. We watched thousands of pounds of cheese pass by before we moved on and got some ice cream and some specialty cheeses in the gift shop.

I love cheese. Go green with envy that you got to go to the factory!

I hope you tried some of the "squeeky" cheese they offer as samples at the end of the tour! :)

We always get a kick out of the fact that the cheese in their gift shop costs more, than the same blocks of Tillamook we buy at the grocery store here in Montana.

That's funny, it def didn't cost more in the gift shop than it does here. And you could get other kinds of cheese, like garlic white cheddar, and hot pepper sharp cheddar. I made some into mac and cheese yesterday and it was AMAZING!
