Rain, Rain, go away....

Our forecast has been bleak and rainy for weeks. Literally, weeks. In weeks like this, that line in Sleepless In Seattle always comes to mind: "It rains 9 months out of the year in Seattle." It is true, and not true at the same time. Yes, it is wet here. But we rarely deal with wet this late in the year. It's JUNE for heavens sake... this is the 3 months we are NOT supposed to have rain. As much as it is guaranteed to be wet all winter, it is usually dry and warm by now... not still hoodie and knee socks weather.

I have so many projects that need doing... I can see the chickweed and morning glories taking over the pathways in my garden. I even see things I need to harvest but I get soaking wet stepping out my front door.

That doesn't always stop me. I reseeded the entire front lawn (and used a slow release fertilizer on the part we put the dirt down on) and pruned the bushes that line the driveway in the soaking rain. I also planted tomatoes and built my tomato bed (which I haven't been able to even take pictures of yet!) in the pouring rain and then hail. (My sweet and helpful husband didn't even stick around for that one.) My neighbors must really think I am crazy, but I can't help getting outside, even in a stretch of horrible weather like this. It's in my blood. I have to care for my space. But the rain continues, and on the weather report is more. bleak. rain. Sigh...

I hear ya...I'm on the OR coast and it's ridiculous! My 60 yr old neighbor said she hasn't seen this much rain since her childhood. Like you I'm waiting for my garden to see the sun. I've had lettuce in for 3 months now and it's only 2 in. tall! that's pathetic...but without the sun....we whine:)

I feel your pain! I think that I'm going to have to buy all new tomato plants when it dries out.....all the ones that I put into pots are yellow/black if not dead. The only thing that's doing well is the cilantro. LOL!

That is so funny! My cilantro has bolted, my asian greens are doing great (although my lettuce is stunted) and my broccoli is already heading with beautiful broccoli. One is almost ready to harvest!

My tomatoes are on the south facing wall and I think that it is saving them. The kids don't look near as happy as mine, although they are not yellow... yet. Another week of this crud and who knows! I may have to buy plants too. :(

You should go out and dance in the rain. I moved from Seattle to the desert and I miss miss miss rainy days. You are so lucky!
