Showing some love... Valentine's Day #3

Today was showing some love to our neighbors. We decided on a cherry swirl sugar cookie which Cyan then shaped into hearts:

She put the stickers on the boxes (which we got from a bakery) and Alex wrote a note saying "Happy Valentine's Day!" and we delivered them to our closest neighbors.

Of course, we kept enough to enjoy some after dinner too. :)

Edit to add (thank you Kari for the note):

The recipe was the basic sugar cookie recipe from Joy of Cooking, then I made another batch with red food coloring and almond extract (instead of vanilla) which makes the cherry flavor and pink color.

After they were chilled, I rolled them out between two pieces of waxed paper, and laid the red on top of the white and carefully rolled them up(with the waxed paper on the outside).

Then we made pink sugar (again, red food coloring in sugar, mixed well with a fork) and put that on the waxed paper, rolled them around until they were coated and cut them into circles that Cyan made into hearts with her (clean) fingers.

Then baked.

I think my children have gotten more red food coloring in the last week than they have in the last year. ;)

Great to see you are still doing well and crafting and cooking away! Logan is getting so big, he's a cutie.
